Day Two At Okemo

What a great day snowboarding ! I knew it was going to be good when it was 27 degrees warmer on the way there (3 degrees!) and it warmed up to a balmy 14 degrees by day's end so I had to take some layers of clothing off.

I learned today that I have been using my feet wrong when I snowboard - I use my back leg way too much and I use my arms a lot. So now I had to concentrate on just using my front foot and I held onto the sides of my pants the whole way down the mountain each run. This is supposed to make it so it is much less leg work for me and I will be able to last longer and turn more efficiently. We were each videotaped down a run before lunch and I got to see where I needed to improve my form. At the end of the week we will do it again.

We took one run through the trees and they were very tightly spaced and there were tons of moguls and rocks and small cliffs to look out for when trying to go down. I definitely wasn't using proper form in there but two of us want to do it again this week.

My favorite trail of the day was the one we did twice in a row at the end of the day and it's called Big Bang and it is a double black diamond run full of big moguls and lots of powder. The moguls were spaced apart enough that it was possible to traverse down them fairly easily. We got a couple of inches of snow throughout the day so that helped build up more powder too.

I left there excited to go back tomorrow. In the morning before my first run I didn't think I would last past lunch time but I had no problem going all day.

  1. that's so fun! I was hoping you would get fresh snow. Apparently it's gonna snow here from Wed thru Sunday so I hope you get some of that too but not too much to make the terrain park messed up! Enjoy!
